Trainings and Presentations
Volunteers of America Alaska offers the following trainings and presentations:
State of Alaska FASD 101:
Offers basic information about FASD including facts, terminology, how FASD affects the body and brain, primary and secondary disabilities resulting from FASD and the purpose of diagnosis. Topics also include Alaska’s approach and resources for those affected by FASD.
State of Alaska FASD 201:
Describes common behaviors of FASD and how they affect individuals and their families. Teaches a process for developing interventions. Helps develop and practice intervention strategies for individuals with FASD.
FASD Into Action:
Offers practical, hands-on strategies for family members and service providers who live and work with people affected by FASD.
Prime for Life:
A risk-reduction program that helps participants understand the risks of their alcohol or drug use. Participants learn to accept their need to make changes in order to protect the things they value most in life.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. It is a simple educational program that teaches ordinary citizens how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person at risk the help they need.
