Families raising children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders are provided with a very unique annual family camp opportunity known as FAScinating Families Camp. Funded through a grant from the state of Alaska's DHSS, Office of FAS, the camp is designed to meet the special needs of these families.

Representatives from several families raising children with FASDs serve in an advisory capacity, providing invaluable insight and direction to ensure that the camp truly serves a broad range of families and their needs.

One of the camp's primary goals is to provide a "normal" camp experience for children who might otherwise be treated as "different" or  "misfits". It is also to provide opportunity for parents to network with one another, and to expose families to new resources available to them. Through a large staff of competent caregivers, multiple respite periods are provided, allowing parents opportunities to meet, relax, or visit without worry of keeping track of the children. Like other Volunteers of America's camps, the  FAScinating Families Camp also offers a variety of crafts, recreation, workshops and fun for all who attend.

Here is information on the FAScinating Family Camp which will be held January 18-21, 2008.
